Local Board/Association Membership Information

Following is a timeline for annual dues collections, dues proration table, sample dues letter and dues deductible language.

DECEMBER 1st
The Dues Collection Policy is posted on REALTOR.org outlining deadlines for annual dues remittance.

JANUARY 1st
Dues from the local boards are due to the National Association of REALTORS®.

JANUARY 1 - MARCH 31
Member Boards must remit dues to the State Association by Feb. 14. KAR then computes state and national dues, and remits a payment for national dues to NAR by March 31. Late fees are charged at the state level after Feb. 15. Any member board or Individual member delinquent in payment of dues by more than 90 days may be required for show cause as to why the Board of Directors, at its discretion, should not revoke the charter of such member board or drop such Individual member from membership, according to NAR policy.

APRIL 15
NAR Treasurer notifies each State Executive Officer of payments outstanding for their member associations.

MAY 1
NAR Treasurer prepares a delinquency notice and sends it to each individual Board Executive Officer or President whose Board's dues have not been fully paid according to NAR's NRDS count as of April 1.

MAY 15
NAR Treasurer corresponds with delinquent Boards (Executive Officer and President) requesting written correspondence addressed to the Finance Committee of NAR stating reasons for unpaid dues or providing documented information to prove that the Board has, in fact, fully paid its dues. Should written correspondence fail to resolve the matter to the satisfaction of the NAR Treasurer, a hearing may be scheduled to take place at the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Finance Committee or at any special meeting of the Finance Committee called for the purpose of addressing the alleged dues deficiency, provided, however, that any Member Board must have at least 30 days prior written notice of such regular or special meeting.

As a service of the Local Board Resource Center, Local Boards may contract with the KAR to prepare billing invoices for all board dues. Dues billing costs will be based on the number of Board members billed, plus a $35 initial set-up fee. KAR can collect your Local Board dues along with the State and National dues. Dues may be sent directly to KAR. KAR will make the membership changes, determine who has not paid their dues as billed, make the follow-up calls, and send the Board Secretary a completed roster and check when the dues have been collected. The charge for this service is $3.50 per member billed.

Additionally, as of January 1, 2003, the KAR began charging member boards for the Point of Entry (POE) service provided. The POE enters all data for members which maintains the NATIONAL REALTOR® DATABASE SYSTEM (NRDS). The charge will be $2.00 per member, per calendar year.
