Mailing Your License Renewal Late? BEWARE!

Be advised -- effective immediately, the Kansas Real Estate Commission cannot verify the date your renewal application was mailed unless you use Certified Mail with a return receipt!

What does this mean? If you mailed your license renewal application to KREC at the last moment ... they cannot verify that it was mailed on a certain date, and you could be charged a penalty.

According to KREC, the United States Postal Service has stopped stamping the postmark date on many applications that are received by the Kansas Real Estate Commission.  As a result, the Commission is no longer able to verify the date a renewal application was mailed.

If you regularly wait to the last minute to mail your renewal application to the Commission, this change could result in the Commission imposing a $50 late renewal fee on your application or denying the renewal application if it is received after the expiration of the six-month grace period.

As always, the Commission advises the best practice is to submit your renewal application to the Commission well in advance of the deadline to ensure that your license is renewed on time and you do not have to pay the $50 late renewal fee.

If you must submit your application close to the deadline, then the Commission advises you to send the renewal application through certified mail with a return receipt so you can prove that the application was mailed prior to the deadline.  If you have any questions about this issue, you can contact the Kansas Real Estate Commission at 785-96-3411.
